216 GPT image2 hand-drawn styles: from browsing by look to reusing prompts
Link numbers, reference names, visual traits, and sample images so a hand-drawn style library becomes a set of reusable image prompts.
- The 216 numbered entries tie each style definition to a sample image, so you can pull the matching prompt again later and still have a clear starting point for a new subject.
- When reusing a style, focus on line quality, palette, shapes, and texture. Leave the sample image’s characters and composition to be reworked for the new topic.
- If the model does not fully grasp a style name, add concrete visual traits or point to a numbered sample image. The name alone does not guarantee the output.
- The full library keeps duplicate reference names and newly added entries. Entries 201–216 include images and names, but no core visual trait descriptions yet.
GitHub user yang0 has put together a hand-drawn style library called handraw-style. It contains 216 numbered entries, each linking a reference name, an image-generation name, and a sample image. Creators can browse the visuals to pick a direction, then hand the "number plus subject" to the accompanying Skill, which produces prompts in both Chinese and English.
Its most direct use is making a chosen style reproducible. When you see linework, colors, or character proportions you like, you don't have to re-describe a vague feeling. Just note the number and you can retrieve the matching text and image later. For anyone producing recurring illustrations—WeChat public-account graphics, character art, or social content—this becomes a visual catalog worth returning to.
Numbers link styles to prompts
Each entry in the library carries three layers of information. The reference name points to an artist or established style. The image-generation name compresses that direction into a short label. The core visual features then describe how line, shape, color, material, and expression should behave.
Entry 018, for instance, uses Poorly Drawn Lines / Reza Farazmand as its reference name and Minimal Deadpan Dialogue Cartoon as its image-generation name. Its visual description emphasizes stick-figure people or animals, calm expressions, and humor that comes from absurd dialogue. Choosing this number means preserving that mode of expression—the particular characters, pets, or actions in the image can be decided fresh by the new subject.
The numbers only carry meaning within this library's index. Feeding "018" to an image tool that has never seen the style library won't confer the definition automatically. The accompanying Skill exists to expand the number into prompts the model can actually use.
Seven groups narrow the search first
The 216 entries are split into groups A through G, covering artist references plus medium, region, and general style categories. Start by choosing a group based on what you want to express, then compare the specific numbers within it. The full list of 216 entries is in the main text. Jump directly to: A humorous comics · B narrative picture books · C flat character design · D Japanese artists · E Chinese artists · F media and regional · G new additions. Each category appears as a grid of thumbnails; click an image to view the original, and expand a card to read the full features and localized prompt template.
| Group | Numbers | Count | What to look for |
|---|---|---|---|
| A International editorial comics / humorous hand-drawn | 001–035 | 35 | Dry humor, visual puns, exaggerated expressions, everyday relationships |
| B International picture books / narrative hand-drawn | 036–054 | 19 | Fairy-tale characters, ink lines with light washes, collage texture, story-driven action |
| C Modern flat / stylized character systems | 055–082 | 28 | Geometric color blocks, silhouettes, negative space, collage, symbols |
| D Japanese artists / contemporary illustration | 083–123 | 41 | Minimal linework, magazine illustration, girlhood scenes, trend-conscious figures |
| E Chinese artists / contemporary illustration | 124–154 | 31 | New-Chinese figures, ink wash, Eastern fantasy, slice-of-life comics |
| F General web-style / media / regional hand-drawn | 155–200 | 46 | Crayon, colored pencil, risograph, watercolor, regional visual elements |
| G Chinese contemporary illustration add-ons | 201–216 | 16 | New numbers and their sample images |
All of these count as "hand-drawn," but each group solves a different expressive problem. Group A can land an idea with one posture or a single visual contrast. Group B is more about placing characters inside fairy-tale or everyday narratives. Group C emphasizes recognition through bold shapes and color fields. Groups D and E offer tighter artist references, while Group F lets you start directly from a material or visual language.
When looking at images, separate subject from technique
It's easy to mistake subject matter for artistic style—liking the cat, the girl, or the period costume in an image and assuming you've chosen a drawing method. A more useful comparison order is to look at linework first, then shape and color, and only then material and expression.
Four entries make for a good exercise in telling these apart. Entry 036 uses loose ink lines and light watercolor with buoyant movement. Entry 058 organizes figures with geometric outlines and large, saturated color areas. Entry 167 leans on two-color printing with misregistration and paper grain. Entry 192 uses generous negative space, ink diffusion, and small figures to carry an Eastern mood. None of these differences depend on a particular kind of character to be visible.
| Number | Image-generation name | Distinguishing features |
|---|---|---|
| 036 | Loose Ink-and-Wash Storybook | Jittery ink lines, loose watercolor, exaggerated limbs, energetic movement |
| 058 | Minimal Bold-Color Fashion Geometry | Geometric figures, large high-saturation color areas, crisp silhouettes |
| 167 | Two-Color Risograph Drawing | Two-color overprinting, slight misregistration, grain, paper tactility |
| 192 | New-Chinese Tiny Ink Figures | Generous negative space, ink bleed, tiny figures, Eastern mood |

036 · Ink lines and light washes

058 · Geometric color blocks

167 · Two-color risograph

192 · Ink-wash negative space
Apply the same principle when using reference images: let the model borrow the linework, brushwork, and color tendencies while keeping subject, action, scene, composition, and text under the control of your current topic. Otherwise you'll swap the prompt but keep generating similar characters in similar layouts, which squanders the library's reusability.
One number gets you a copy-ready bilingual prompt
The Skill outputs prompts by default. Once you feed it a valid number and a subject, it pulls in the image-generation name and the original reference name. Aspect ratio, subject constraints, and text requirements are added according to the conditions you explicitly state.
Using 018 with "a person holding coffee while waiting for an elevator" as the subject, the Skill's name-based prompt could look like the example below. Chinese and English describe the same subject, with the style tag kept consistent. If the model doesn't recognize those names, you'll need to add visual features or the corresponding reference image.
中文
风格名称:#018 · Minimal Deadpan Dialogue Cartoon。主题:一个人端着咖啡等待电梯。参考作者/风格名称:Poorly Drawn Lines / Reza Farazmand。
English
Style name: #018 · Minimal Deadpan Dialogue Cartoon. Theme: A person holding a cup of coffee while waiting for an elevator. Reference author/style name: Poorly Drawn Lines / Reza Farazmand.
That brief prompt and the core visual features represent two different levels of use. Daily prompting keeps the input minimal. Only when explicit image generation is requested does the Skill decide, based on the model configuration, whether to add features or pass in an image. English subjects require real translation—the repository's command-line tool just drops your input subject verbatim into the English template and can't translate for you.
Match the prompt depth to what the model can understand
The repository splits generation input into three tiers: artist name plus generation name; those names plus positive visual features; and finally a single reference image from the matching entry. The deciding factor is the model's capability configuration.
When the configuration indicates the model can recognize a style by name, only the name and subject are needed. If names fall short but visual features are sufficient, concrete visible characteristics get added. When neither suffices—or no configuration exists for the current model—the system falls back to using a single image as reference. This keeps the style cues intact while limiting how much the sample artwork interferes with your new subject.
"Positive features" here means directly stating what should appear in the image—like thick black outlines, transparent overlapping colors, or scattered point accents.
The current configuration ships a decision table tuned for gpt-image-2. These are judgment rules set by the project maintainer, not a guarantee that any given number performs identically across all generation environments. If you change models or subjects, check your own results to see whether the linework, colors, and figure proportions still hold.
Save the full number—every entry has its own differences
The 216 numbered entries can't be reduced to 216 distinct artists or 216 fully non-overlapping art movements. Names like A Geng, Jidi, and Xia Da show up more than once across the earlier groups and the add-on section, but each occurrence comes with a different generation name and sample image. Keeping the number is the only reliable way to return to the exact version you picked.
Entries 201–216 all have names and images, but their core visual features are empty. When using these, look at the individual image to pick a direction. If you need a written description of the style, you'll have to analyze the image yourself—the missing description can't be treated as an existing definition.
A few small mismatches also exist between the text in the images and the index. Entry 201, for example, is listed in the text index as "cute, moe-style illustration" but the sample image reads "healing, everyday picture-book style." For lookup and invocation, go by the number and the text index; treat the sample image as a visual reference. Keep both in play and there's no confusion.
A good way to start is with a small-scale comparison. Fix a single subject, pick three numbers that look visually distinct, and generate each one. Compare the outlines, color palettes, materials, and expressions. Once you've settled on a direction, record the number, the generation name, the subject, and the actual model you used. Next time you switch topics, you'll have a clear starting point and a better sense of which variable actually changed the style.
001–035: Comics for humor and commentary
This group is about communicating an idea through figures, line, and spatial relationships. When comparing entries, ask where the humor comes from: a deadpan expression, exaggerated body language, a scale mismatch between figure and environment, or a conceptual metaphor in the composition.

Pick once, find it again

Narrow down, then look at the technique
The 216 numbered entries split into seven groups; an artist may have multiple versions, so the number is the true locator.
